Let's take a look at what'cha been workin' on . . .
I'm going to be completely honest here, sometimes a project turns out to be a lot more work than initially planned. Sometimes there are moments when you want to completely abandon a project because you just can't see past what I call the 'ugly stage'. . . Sometimes you just need to walk away from a project, move on to a success or victory elsewhere . . but I encourage you to always come back! Sometimes your previously loved piece of furniture and you just need a little time apart, some time to really understand each other. Let it breathe.
Because I guarantee you, if you stick with your vision, you will get there:
How beautiful is this piece restyled by Elizabeth? It looks fantastic - but I know this one wasn't achieved without a bit of heartache and some long and late hours!
Here is a peak at the dresser before Elizabeth worked her magic. A beautiful piece for sure, great curves, great legs . . . who would have guessed that this piece would cause so much havoc. It looks like a simple enough piece to restyle. Elizabeth had a vision to remove the bottom drawers to replace with baskets for some less formal storage, sand and stain the top and paint the rest out in van Gogh's beautiful 'Patina'. . .
Everything was going along swimmingly, until this happened:
Do you see all that horrible 'bleed through'?? Who would have guessed that this perfectly prepped dresser would bleed through red after being painted and finished?!? Sometimes these previously loved pieces have had a history that we can't see just from looking at them (previous stains, cleaners, etc). Obviously it couldn't stay like this - and the good news is, it didn't! Elizabeth stuck with her vision, worked through the 'ugly stage' using various methods to seal in the bleed through, then re-paint and finish this piece.
And I'm so glad she did - because it looks amazing! Thank you for sharing Elizabeth!!
Next up this week: Nichole had similar aspirations as Elizabeth and removed a drawer from this dresser to house her TV components. Painted out in a soft white - this vintage buffet now works (and looks) great!! Nice work - thanks for sharing Nichole!
Last but definitely not least this week is Danielle's table after that she did a gorgeous job restyling! The top of the table and the seat of the chairs were completely stripped down and stained in a mahogany stain. The table base and chair frames however were scuffed and painted out in van Gogh's Revenge - a rich and beautiful black! The combination is so classic looking - fantastic job Danielle!!
Danielle was so anxious to get started on this project that she forgot to take a before picture . . . but she sent this one along that she said looks just like her set did before she started:
