Hi there, Reclaimers!
Today, I’m going to tell you the story of a piece we almost gave up on…yes, that’s right—even we get discouraged with some of the pieces we pick to restyle!
This MCM tallboy dresser came to us in ROUGH shape. Not only had it been previously refinished terribly, but structurally it needed a LOT of work. We saw the potential of this piece—but quickly felt like we bit off a little more than we could chew.
Here’s a look a what she looked like before we got to work on her:
Yikes, right?!
But with a LOT of love & elbow grease, we were able to give her a new life…and now we’re OBSESSED!
As many of you know, we are big fans of the wood/ paint combination—especially on MCM pieces!
We were able to sand that old, gross finish off three of the drawers and apply a “white wash” using Valerie from the Mango Paint line to brighten them up slightly.
Next, we painted the frame, top drawer and handles in the Mango Paint colour Harrison—a rich navy grey which gave this piece a sleek, modern vibe overall.
And just like that, we were left with a piece worth swooning over!
So, the moral of this little story is:
Be patient & stick with your vision—it’s always worth saving from the landfill!
