A restyled secretary - for shelter!

If you haven't already - you should mark your calendar! This Saturday (May 9th) Royal LePage is hosting a 'Garage Sale for Shelter' at 200 Dundas St. East in Whitby. 100% of the revenue from this sale will go to support local women's shelters and violence prevention programs.

I got in on the action and restyled this beautiful secretary desk for the sale.

This desk was in fairly rough shape when it was donated to the sale, but it had some good bones so I gladly accepted the challenge to restyle it in an effort to raise the value for charity.

Here's a few shots from when the desk was dropped off at the studio. You can see some of the marks and scratches on the desk (including two broken front legs), and a glimpse at the inside . . .

I wanted to use Fusion Mineral Paint to restyle this desk because I had been looking for an excuse to use the beautiful Laurentien colour and this was the perfect opportunity! In preparation to paint the desk, it was sanded overall to remove the existing varnish as well as smooth out some of the scratches and dents.

Here she is ready to paint {decorative front legs are still missing, but don't worry, we added them on before painting}:

One of the great things about Fusion paint is that for most projects your don't require a primer or a top coat! {awesome, right?!} Ok, here she is again all finished in gorgeous Laurentien:

Don't you just love the brassy golden hardware??

Oooh! Let's not forget the inside - painted in beautiful Bedford!

Incase your not convinced yet, here  are a few detail shots to really showcase her charms :)

This sweet secretary desk will be available for sale this Saturday at the Royal LePage 'garage sale for shelter' along with tons of other great treasures so be sure to stop by! It's going to be a great day of fundraising for a great local cause!
