I’m Melanie - but you can also call me Mango . . .
I started this business venture in 2013 and haven't looked back since! I absolutely LOVE painting furniture and spending time in my studio. It’s definitely one of my happy places!
My love for furniture restyling began organically . . .
as I took the hand-me-downs and thrift store buys at my own house and turned them into pieces that transformed my apartment, and then my 1st house, and now my second house into a home. Years later - I am a professionally trained furniture painter with a vintage furniture studio that has restyled and given new life to over 2,500 pieces!
On a more personal note . . . Why Mango?
This is a question I get asked a lot . . Mango is a nick name that my late husband used to call me - it started almost 18 years ago when we were travelling south east Asia together. My family and close friends still refer to me as Mango and that makes my heart happy. It's been over 7 years since I lost Glenn and every single day I miss him. I am lucky to see his handsome eyes in the face of my son and can honestly say that losing Glenn has given me a bigger perspective on life. It is so precious and unpredictable - make sure you spend your time doing things you love.
I am also recently a new mother (again) to my second son and though they are years apart - watching my two boys together fills my heart with so much joy! You may see my fiance around the studio from time to time - he is creative, handy and super helpful! (I like to refer to him as Mr. M.R.)
5 random things you should know about me . . .
I have a university degree in graphic communications management with minors in marketing and entrepreneurship. I also have a background in wedding photography.
I love to cook - like good food, lol! Feeding people and watching them go back for seconds makes me so happy! (I also love to bake)!
I have a seriously large, loving, close and supportive family! (I’m talking about 2 brothers, 1 sister, 4 sister-in-laws, 4 brother-in-laws, 4 nephews & 2 nieces)!
I am not a morning person. Nope. Not even a little bit. I do not jump out of bed with a spring in my step. Actually please don’t even talk to me until I’ve had my morning chai latte, haha!
I try really hard to get work done after my boys are in bed, but sometimes I’m so tired that I just end up looking at pictures and videos of my boys from the day, lol!
