'Morning Mist' dining room reveal! {part 2}

Happy Tuesday!

Today I'm going to share a few more pictures from the dining room I revealed last week.

If you missed the first reveal, you can see it by clicking here.

So, last week we saw this picture, but I didn't really get into any detail about the gorgeous cabinet in the background. . .

You know . . . this one:

This cabinet was painted using van Gogh Fossil paint in 'Morning Mist' on the exterior and 'Cashmere' for the interior of the hutch. I also used the van Gogh liquid metals in 'Wedding Band' & 'Honyemoon' to really beautify the hardware . . .

The cabinet exterior was finished with natural furniture wax overall and antiquing wax to highlight all of the decals and recessed details.

Speaking of details . . .

One more angle from across the table . . .

My client didn't waste any time moving into her new dining space and I really love how she has so beautifully styled all of her dishes in the lighted hutch!

Ok, now take a glimpse across the table to the other side . . . do you see that hint of soft warm grey?!

This buffet was a piece that my client sourced outside of the studio and brought to me to complete with the rest of the set I was already working on.

I LOVE this piece and am so grateful for being given creative reign to resyle it as I saw fit. I knew a hit of soft warm grey (van Gogh's 'Zepplin') would really help round out all of the light cream and white in this room.

What do you think?

We did a similar treatment to the hardware, sprucing them up with van Gogh liquid metals in 'Honeymoon' and 'Wedding Band', to help tie the hutch and buffet together.

Mild distressing as well as natural and antiquing wax overall complete the soft and slightly worn in look. You know how I love the details :)

I used van Gogh's 'Table Top Finish' for the top of the buffet (as I also did for the dining table top). This is a really durable finish so that my client can feel confident actually using this buffet to serve guests without worrying about ruining the piece.

Now that we've seen all the prettiness that has come of this dining set - let's take a quick peek at the cabinet 'before':

and here's the buffet:

A 'Restore' find, Restyled!

Wow! When my customer came into the store with this sideboard - I got seriously excited! And when I found out that she had picked it up at a Habitat for Humanity Restore - I was seriously proud of her! What a fantastic find!

CashmereRiverTidesDresser-4.jpg

Heres is what the dresser looked like when my customer first brought it in. Now you may not be able to tell from the photograph, but this dresser was in pretty bad shape! There were big scratches and marks all over it, not to mention water marks and stains all over the top . . . but she definitely had potential!

After some paint in van Gogh 'Cashmere' and 'River Tides', this Restore find was completely restyled!

I mean seriously, check out these stunning details! With van Gogh clear beeswax giving a protective finish overall I was able to add the french caffeine beeswax just in the details to really make them stand out. Using a wax brush is imperative when trying to get the french caffeine wax into all the nooks and crannies of your furniture. . . and completely worth the effort. Nothing enhances the details of a piece like this does!

While we're looking at the beauty of Cashmere - lets take a quick peak at this adorable bedside table. This was also restyled using van Gogh 'Cashmere' with both clear and french caffeine beeswax.

This bedside table was custom restyled for a customer to match her existing Mango Reclaimed restyled bedroom set . . . which you can read about here.

Don't just paint your furniture - paint your hardware too!!

Hello and happy Monday!

With every restyle comes a moment of deciding what to do with the hardware situation . . . sometimes the hardware is sweet or full of character just the way it is, but other times it's just darn right awful. There are so many things that can be done to spruce up existing hardware. For example just adding a bit of twine can sometimes do the trick enough to soften the look:

Other times you may want to paint out your hardware. Yes! You can use van Gogh paint to paint your existing hardware!

Two recent custom order restyles at Mango Reclaimed had just that moment where we decided to keep the original hardware but paint it out in a soft complimentary colour. The first restyle I want to share with you is a stunning armoire. The hardware on this piece was so unique to the lines of the doors and drawers that it would be near impossible to replace it without it looking a bit 'hokey'. So we painted it out!

This hardware was originally dark and bulky looking, but painted in van Gogh fossil paint's 'morning mist' and lightly distressed, the hardware is now truly beautiful!

Because this piece is soooo heavy, I had to leave it in two sections to photograph it, but when it's put together in my customer's cottage I think it will be a truly stunning focal point.

This armoire has been van Gogh painted overall in 'muse', has been mildly distressed around the edges and has a protective hemp oil finish. Some gorgeous details:

The second restyle I want to share with you is a very functional storage filled sideboard, that looks amazing now that it's restyled in van Gogh's 'stormy skies'.

The original hardware was brassy and distractive. Now that it's painted in 'morning mist' and put against the 'stormy skies' backdrop it adds some pretty french flair to the sideboard.

What do you think? Do you like the look of the painted hardware?
